Happy Holidays!

I can’t believe it’s already Christmas!  It really comes too fast sometimes.  That said, I’m excited as always.  Disappointed that we’ll be getting rain instead of snow, but what can ya’ do?

Last year, I started a needle jar and it was exciting to put a second batch of needles in.  What is a needle jar, you ask?  It’s something my parents have been doing my whole life.  We have a large baby food jar (with a pretty tree painted on the lid) and every year we pull a few needles off of our Christmas Tree and put them in the jar.  My parents probably have 25+ years of needles stuffed into that jar.  I’ve been adding to it every year for as long as I can remember.  I always look forward to taking off the lid and inhaling the scent of all my past Christmases.  My jar looks pretty sad by comparison, with only a dozen scattered needles in the bottom.  But, I suppose filling it with memories is part of the fun.

I’m really looking forward to next week, when I can concentrate on More than Magic #2!  Here’s my first little teaser for you: it takes place at a ski resort, a few months after the events of Semester Aboard.  I’m kind of crossing my fingers for a heavy winter so that the snow can inspire me while I write.

Don’t forget, Semester Aboard is on sale for 99 cents until the end of the month!  You can get it for that price from Smashwords, Barnes &Noble, Diesel Books, and Sony!

Later today I’m going to post Chapter 3! You can also read Chapters 1 and 2 right here, if you haven’t yet.

Last, but not least, I’ve got a (rather long) meme that I’ve decided to fill out the way that characters in Semester Aboard would.  Let me know who you want to see a meme from first: Jen, Thomas, Dani, TS, Charlie, or Mariana!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Countdown to Christmas

Boy, life has been busy.  If it isn’t a very persistent cold, it’s Christmas shopping and wedding planning!  Not to mention working!  We’re a bit short-handed so I’ve been going in an hour early to lend a hand.  Instead of being paid the extra hour, I get a lunch break.  The lunch break doesn’t give me nearly as much time to get things done as going in at my usual time would.  Phew!

At least all of my Christmas shopping is done!  And with a week to spare no less!  I’m really looking forward to next week when I have all five days off.  I plan to catch up on a lot of sleep and, more importantly, writing!  The sequel to Semester Aboard is just begging to be written.  It’s all laid out and planned, I just need the time to sit down and do it!

In other news, Semester Aboard has been getting some great publicity this week.  It started with a wonderful review from There for You. Then, it was featured on Pinky’s Pub!  I’ve also got a potential interview on the way and I might have another reviewer in the works too!  Sher is also currently reading it, you can find her blog here.

Needless to say, I’m pretty excited about it all.

Until next time!

Contest Winners and November

Well, the contest was over and the winners have (or should have!) gotten their free digital copies of Semester Aboard!

Another big congrats to the Paranormal Reads FB group, Ashley O, Marian L, Heather G, Yvonne L. Tracie B, Chelsea R, Morgan L, and Kymberlee B!  I hope you all enjoy my book!

November is looking like it’s going to be a big month for Semester Aboard.  Any day now there will be a feature run on Pinky’s Pub!  Annette of Gothic Mom’s Book Reviews just posted a review yesterday, which can be found here.  I’m also thrilled to say that I’ve been adopted for Adopt an Indie Month!  My wonderful new ‘mommy’ Sher has already posted a little teaser for me on her blog: Sher A Hart.  She’ll also be interviewing me fairly soon and posting that as well.  But wait, there’s more!  I’m going to be doing a guest post on the 21st on Intoxicated by Books

And, last but not least, Semester Aboard hit 100 downloads on Smashwords this month!  A lot of those are the free sample 10%, but I’m still pretty stoked to see the triple digits!  The daily page views have also be steadily climbing.

A collection of ramblings…

First up: life.  I just got one eye corrected with laser eye surgery and am currently half blind. It’s exciting to be able to see the clock from across the room, but my bad eye is so bad I can’t see the computer, and my good eye is still healing, so I can’t see the computer.  It sort of makes promoting a book, maintaining a blog, and even simply checking my email a chore.  There’s a contact lens “bandage” in it right now, which should be taken out later today if all is going well.  That said, I am so excited to be able to see soon.  I’ve had glasses for probably 20 years and am really looking forward to the freedom.

Next up: something I think is of great interest to fellow indie authors.  BookChart  It’s a page that tracks iBook sales on iTunes!  Thanks to this little gem I discovered that Semester Aboard hit number 44 on the iTunes.uk Top 100 Fantasy book list.  It isn’t based solely on sales, but it still blew me away.  I can’t wait for iTunes to report to Smashwords so I can see what it means!  If you have a book on iTunes, be sure to check it out!

In other Semester Aboard news, it seems to be doing well.  My sales rank from B&N moves up and down, which leads me to assume some are selling.  I’ve gotten several fantastic reviews and the sweetest fanmail ever.  She said that I’ve inspired her to try and publish a book she’s working on.  That pretty much made my life.  I mean, wow, what a compliment!

I had a dream last night that may have inspired a novella.  I might blame my medicated eyedrops.  That said, you know how once a plot-bug bites, it’s hard to get rid of.  I have the sequel to Semester Aboard half plotted.  I’m still working out some events and things.  I have a few old chapters written that need some heavy editing, but I should get to that soon.  In addition to that, I have another novel I started ages ago that is begging to be picked back up.  As soon as my eyes are functional, I hope to do a lot of writing!

And last, since I do enjoy reading and writing, I’d like to return to review favor and review some books on my blog!  Any takers?

Also, a special day in the Semester Aboard universe is coming up soon.  There just might be a chance to get it for free!  Keep your eyes peeled!
